Filmmaker Makes World Premiere South of The Border
Work Transcends Language

Arayna Thomas’ film “Cornered” is a moving tale that transcends language.  Inspired by French director Chris Marker's landmark work La Jetée, “ Cornered” explores societal alienation and rejection, with an ending that leaves room for viewer interpretation.  “The writer and I opted to use a solo piano piece in place of a narrator or trying for dialogue; the director Arayna Thomas said, “I think this style of storytelling demands more from the audience”.

The film does have a haunting undertone; it slowly draws viewers in, involving them in what the protagonist Zoë is experiencing until there is no turning back.  A hypnotic ride in which we ultimately find ourselves trapped with Zoë, cornered by a wall of emotions that everyone feels sometimes.

“Cornered” is the début film for ISIS Productions, LLC which has recently moved its operations from its homebase New York City out to the West Coast.

Thomas will attend the festival with the Writer/ Director of Photography S.E. Kenlon.  Since “Cornered”, this filmmaking team has gone on to collaborate on a series of short films and is currently in development with their first feature production, “Rune”.

“Cornered” was well received at a preview screening during the Cannes Film Festival at the American Pavilion in 2001.  This July, Cornered will make its World Premiere at the Expresión en Corto Film Festival in Guanajuato, Mexico . The Festival takes place from July 19th to July 26th with attendees representative of forty countries.
